The Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference was established in 1990 by ten Ohio high schools in Delaware, Marion, Morrow, and Union Counties. The charter members are Delaware Buckeye Valley, Cardington Lincoln, Marion Elgin, Sparta Highland, Mount Gilead, Richwood North Union, Galion Northmor, Marion Pleasant, Morral Ridgedale, and Caledonia River Valley. During the history of the MOAC, the ten charter members have remained in place and makeup today's conference. All the schools are members of the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA). Since the inception of the MOAC, twelve sports have been recognized by the schools as conference sports. The seven boys’ sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, track, and wrestling. The five girls' sports are basketball, cross country, softball, track, and volleyball. At least six schools in the MOAC must participate in a sport for it to be recognized as a conference sport. The Blue and Red Divisions were established to divide the conference in half in order to put together the schools of similar size. The Blue Division is Cardington, Mount Gilead, Northmor, Pleasant, and Ridgedale. The Red Division schools are Buckeye Valley, Elgin, Highland, North Union, and River Valley. The conference recognizes a champion of each division in each of the twelve sports. The current commissioner of the conference is Jerry Widder.
